In this candid and wide-ranging interview with Gabriela Röhrichová, I reflect on the emotional and symbolic layers of my sculpture, my relationship to womanhood, and the complex roles women inhabit in society and in themselves. The article was published to accompany my solo exhibition Women Cry, They Get Wet and explores how I use art to express the tension between vulnerability, strength, sexuality, and emotional truth.
In this interview, I talk about:
- how I connect sexuality and emotionality in works like the Heart with a Vagina,
- why some of my pieces are seen as provocative — and why I don’t see them that way,
- how societal expectations shape our relationships to bodies, shame, and femininity,
- my upbringing in a family of independent women and how it shaped my self-reliance,
- my views on feminism, motherhood, and the structural challenges women face,
- how I balance creative work, partnership, and the desire to one day have a child,
- why I don’t show unfinished pieces.
Thank you, Gabriela Röhrichová, for the nourishing personal interview and the editorial team for the space to share.
