Besides creating art, I dedicate a part of my life to making the meaning of art accessible to those who may have felt excluded from it. In this open conversation for Heroine.cz, I talk about how I explore childhood, shame, sexuality and power through sculpture, humor and different medias I work with.
In this interview, I talk about:
- the story behind my bronze teddy bear with genitals and why the emotional reactions to it surprised me,
- how I explore the tension between childhood innocence and cultural shame in works like Witch Bitch and an upcoming sculpture of a small boy,
- why I chose to make only three “Dicktators” and the dangers of satire in political art,
- how the suicide-themed Christmas ornament Merry Christmas reflects societal fears around aging, isolation, and the future,
- my experience with galleries, why I haven’t found the right gallerist yet, and what the “gray zone” of the art market means for independent sculptors.
Thanks to Klára Čikarová and the Heroine editorial team for the space in their magazine!
